Beefstake Tomato

The Tomato Pole Beefsteak, ‘Lycopersicon lycopersicum,’ produces huge tomatoes that can reach two pounds each. This is an old favorite for those who love meaty, thick, tasty and large tomatoes for sandwiches. The fruits are also useful in almost any dish that benefits from a rich tomato flavor. Wire cages are recommended to hold of the vigorous vines and large fruits. They require at least one inch of water weekly, and should be soaked to a depth of six to ten inches when watering. This variety requires at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. These plants should be pruned in order to keep a single stem.
